Mark, is this "bubble flare" the type that some call a double flare where the tube flares out and then folds back to the inside? I've made that type of flare but you have to be careful or the steel will split or the flare will come out lopsided. Maybe I need a better quality flaring tool. My flaring experience has led me to keep several different lengths and diameters of brake line on hand so I can use the pre-made lengths instead of cutting and flaring. As TheKid mentioned above, I just put a hump in the line if it's a bit too long.
For what it's worth, I once had a 1968 VW Beetle and the brake lines on it used a double flare. That technology has been around a while.
