brake pads/shoes?

We just had our tractor (L34004wd) delivered to us, and I'm wondering how the brake system is set up. Is it a pad/rotor system or shoe/drum? I tried to find it, but couldn't. I assume it's within the main housing.

Also, will I ever need to change them? Basically, do they wear out as fast as car brakes?

I made the mistake of not releasing the parking brake today. It went on for about a minute. I'm wondering if I damaged the system, or wore the heck out of my brakes. That's why I was looking for it. Dumb me. I'm wondering if the brake compound is soft or harder than the ones they have in cars.

The 3400 has wet disc brakes. The brakes discs are in the rear axle housing/transmission case and run in oil/hydraulic fluid.
These brakes last a long time.
Running with the parking brake on for such a short period of time shouldn't cause you any problem. But its best not to make it a habit of driving with the park brake on.

Vince is right on all counts. Chances are they will last longer than the tractor will.

I had the same wet brake set-up on an old MF85 I changed the brakes at 13000 hours.

I wonder if anyone else has done what I did. I know when I first got my car, I did the same thing. I have to learn to be more alert. I hate it when things like that happen. Maybe I should install some type of buzzer on my car and tractor to tell me that the parking brake is on.

I would be willing to bet that there are very few members on this site that haven't driven off with the park brake on at one time or another.
I know I've done it a few times myself..

Leaving the brakes engaged for a minute or so will not cause any problems. Leaving them engaged for an extended amount of time can cause the trasmission oil to overheat. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
