Brakeaway battery charger

Maybe stepping into a storm, but...with my trailers I could do away with the breakaway charger and battery and my brakes are still operable as long as connected to my tow vehicle. Seems everyone is overthinking this...a little breakaway charger costs $10 and can be wired up in 5 minutes, will be charging when connected to the vehicle and you should still have brakes in the meantime.
