Got the tractor out tonight to do some mowing. I kept getting the feeling that something wasn't quite right. Felt like something was dragging, or had a low tire. I noticed that it didn't quite 'coast' as smoothly as it normally does, just felt heavy. The pedals both seem to return fully when released. I do almost always apply the parking brake when stopped and getting off, and when put away.
Any quick way to diagnose this? Didn't have much time to crawl under and poke around, will look at it more tomorrow. Any thoughts appreciated.

brakes

looks like you have 2 pedals, and each pedal has a separate rod going back to left and right side. on the rods looks to be an adjustment nut (long nut) to adjust brakes. hard to tell from parts diagram but looks like parking brake / emergency brake is tied into same rods. but i may be mistaken.

double check you did not go into another range / gear selection.

double check your FEL and 3pt hitch, and rear hydraulic port levers/joysticks are not sticking partially open (can cause a load on the engine)

if you have a 3pt backhoe for unit. sometimes on tractors if you disconnect the hoses to backhoe and re attach them in wrong order you can goof up.

take it out of 4x4 / MFWD and check, then put it into 4x4/MFWD and check

===========
with above said, linkage between pedal and rods going to the brakes in rear most likely needs adjustment assuming it is one of the brakes.

Thanks for the reply. The parts diagrams help me to understand how the brakes work.

That is correct, the parking brake functions by simply locking both pedals down.

I went through all those scenarios, and I don't have a backhoe on it.

This symptom just sort of happened overnight, which leads me to think something is stuck.

I looked it over some last night, both brake linkages move and retract freely, and the cam levers move freely also.

I am thinking it is highly unlikely that both brakes would be dragging, so I guess I'll have to put the rear of the tractor up on jack stands and turn the wheels to see which one is dragging. If it is one of the brakes sticking, I guess it goes off to the dealer.
