Thanks again, JWR! I'll try your ideas.

So I have figured out that it's the left brake pedal that is the issue. And I figured out that if I pull back on the lever that normally serves as a parking brake (although it has not been in use during these incidents), it causes the brake pedal to release. I can't see why.

I called my dealership about that, and they were quite interested, but no one has yet indicated that they understand why it is happening that way. They're still thinking about it.

Do you happen to have any ideas on this?

No, that is puzzling. Might track the linkage from the parking brake lever down underneath and see how it operates. Wouldn't know what else to do.

post pictures underneath the tractor where the pedals and parking brake are. that might help. maybe the parking brake lever is actuating by itself when you press hard on the brakes?.

At least on the larger tractors there is a cable pulled by the lever which activates the regular brakes (by mechanism underneath that I cannot recall details of.) It has a ratchet and stays activated when you pull it up, then releases with a pushbotton on vthe lever that releases the ratchet. You'll just have to inspect the linkage and see how it is connected (or find a shop manual if you can and study that.)
