Brakes not releasing on 4700

I have been having trouble with the parking brake not releasing lately. The brakes make a noise similar to air in a hydraulic line but more screachy. I wonder if the dealer neglected to do some other prep work on
the brakes. Has anyone else had a similar problem?

Don, I don't know how similar our tractors are, but I had the problem of the parking brake not releasing on my NH TC45D and just found a dirty release mechanism under my operator's platform. My brakes also made a noise when the tractor was new, but now they are silent. Have you checked that the linkage to the parking brake is free and doesn't have something lodged underneath? ...just an idea.

I had brake problems with my 4100 when it was new, similar to what you describe.
Maybe the same, maybe not. Originally the parking brake seemed like it wasn't releasing correctly and eventually plenty of brake noise. External brake linkage adjustments were all correct.

My dealer advised me to contact Deere's Customer Communications Center 1-800-527-8233 and after no improvement following a suggested change of fluid and recommended treatment with a JD supplied oil additive called PEMO (a fluid friction modifier designed to reduce excessive brake noise), my internal brake components plates, friction discs etc. were all replaced under warranty service.

I understand there are service information bulletins out on using Pemo. According to the label its been called out for use on the 655, 755, 855, 955, 670, 770, 870, 970, 1070, 790, 990, 4500, 4600, 4700, and now for the 4100 also.

Jim, Thanks. I will check the linkage when I can get back out to my tractor. It is certainly possible that the linkage is sticking. The other thing I would suspect is that the master cylinder may be sticking.

DFB, thanks for the information. I will ask the service rep about the additive. My problem is a little different than yours as the brakes howl when I drive the tractor not when I stop. After reading your other thread, I wonder if the approximately 2 gallons of non-JD hydraulic fluid that I had to add may have something to do with the problem. I can't really see how it could since it was added to the 6.8 gallons that was already there. Also when I first noticed the problem the brake pedal did not move after I released the parking brake. I had it lock later that day and could not shift to a different range either. At this time the brakes howl when the tractor moves but I can shift ranges on the transmission. After I check for mechanical binding of the linkage I will have the service technician come out and take a look at it ... good excuse to ask him ot help me move the wheels to the wide position.

Good luck I hope its easily resolved.

When I first had the tractor the brakes seemed to be constantly dragging while driving. Sounded like when one tries to move the tractor without releasing the parking brake. Originally it was determined that nothing was wrong (visual inspection, linkage adjustments, noise subsided) but within a year's time the scraping sounds began which in turn lead to the eventual replacement of the brake components.
