Brakes on a Mahindra 5525?

I recently purchased a 2011 Mahindra 5525. The question I have is about the brakes on this tractor. When I have it in gear and press the brakes the tractor does not stop, it bogs it down slightly but it just keeps going. I have to put into neutral first then hit the brakes to get it to stop. I have adjusted the brake pedals and still not helping. I was wondering if this is normal for these tractors or if it needs new brake discs etc? Any advice would be great, I am a noob to these Mahindras.

dumb question...no offense meant, but are you throttling back before you hit the brakes? The hand throttle lever has to be backed off or your foot off the throttle pedal if you have one. It's easy to forget, if you use the hand lever.

What gear are you in?
When I added a crawl box to my truck and put it in compound low the brakes don't work either. Well the brakes actually work but it will just twist up the springs and eventually break them if I don't engage the clutch at some point, even at idle. The good news is that at those kinda speeds you really don't need brakes because it's not going anywhere fast. In fact it's going so slow you can let it just idle along then get out and stack your own rocks.

Well, it won't stop completely in any gear, it does get better as you go up in gear 3-4 high. At 1-2 low it does absolutely nothing, even at idle.

Assuming your brake adjustment was done properly, you may have grease or oil contamination on the disc pads. I'd check for leaks around the rear axles.

I had my 2008 5525 for 7 years and never ran into any brake issues.

Did it always stop dead while in Low 1st gear?

My 4025 will actually move from a dead stop with the parking brake set in first and second gear. I have actually done this a time or two when I forgot to dis-engage the brake. It will also not stop the tractor moving forward if I press down on the brake pedals even at idle until I push in on the clutch. Lot's of torque and gear reduction there, the machines do not function like a car or pickup. If you are moving and want to stop, you must depress the clutch. If you want to simply slow down just back off the throttle. Enjoy your machine.

I think he probably has wet disc brakes like most of us do. Although some 5500 series have dry disks.

Same here. Not so much anymore as the newbieness is wearing off slowly. In fact I rarely set the parking brake anymore since it's parked on fairly level terrain. With the bucket down it's not really going anywhere.
