Even grounding is not good enough really.
Along with grounding it pays to remove the feeder breaker from the other end of the line...along with following other standard safety procedures. On high energy circuits, if the worst happens the ground wire will vaporize and the flash will do great damage to human flesh...if electrical shock does not get you first.
I guess that equates to turning off the tractor engine before attaching or removing the pto shaft...better safe than sorry...
