I sound like a branson saleman but I am not. I too was in this exact same position several months ago. The way I figured it you can not compare the HP of a branson and a kubota and think they are similar. A branson 3510 can move round bales with the loader. Ask the kubota dealer and they will tell you you need at least a 50hp kubota to do it. Also the kubotas lose a lot of hp from engine hp to pto hp due to it being hydraulic. The 3510 lift capacity at the lower links on the 3pt is 2,580lbs. The 3400 is 1998lbs. Don't get me wrong I am not saying kubotas are bad tractors, I am just saying the branson will outperform it in nearly everything as far as pulling power, lifting capabilities, etc.

Also is the 3400 you are looking at 4wd? The 3510 is. If I remember right when I was shopping the kubota 3400 4wd was more than the 3510.

The Rural King Tractor King 40hp tractor weighs almost the exact same as the 47hp Branson and has about the same lift capacities. Does that make it better? Also, it only costs about $8500, but you can get 10% off that.

Before you slam them, don't forget a lot of guys on here own the Foton tractors, which is what they are.

"The 3400 is 1998lbs."

Just in case others read this thread, the L3400DT 4x4 is 2558lbs (right off my spec list for the one I purchased this year).

Hmm, The Kubota spec sheet on their web page must be wrong then. It lists the lift capacity at 1998, and the weight of the tractor at 2580(4X4). Maybe you were looking at the weight of the tractor and not the lift capacity? Here is the link to where I am getting this info from. http://www.kubota.com/f/products/l2800L3400L4400Specs.pdf

By the way the 3510 weighs 3,640lbs, over 1,000lbs more than the kubota 3400. Do you think they just bolted some lead weights under there? No, the whole drivetrain is made up of beefier components. Take a look at the rear axle of the kubota and the branson and you will see what I am talking about. The branson has a lot stouter components. Is this necessary? Depends on what you are doing. Shredding, rototilling, digging post holes, probably not. Plowing, pulling stumps, moving round bales and other heavy fel work, yes it comes in quite handy.

Oh, between all of the expected postioning on a "which tractor" post, I forgot to congratulate you on your purchase.
The best tractor is the tractor that works out best for you. You know what you need, what dealer support you have, and how to spend your money. Hopefully you'll come back and visit TBN often. You'll find that when people disagree on which tractor, it's sort of like the Ford, Chevy, Dodge pickup type of banter. We can disagree but all get along. Good luck with your new tractor!

Dargo, I agree. I hope is is happy with his kubota. Like I said before they are good machines. They did not get to be so popular by being junk. I am sure it will do him well as long as he understands its limitations.

As to the ford/chevy/dodge thing, I think there is some brand loyalty on the tractors, but when it comes to tractors there are big differences where trucks are really close to the same specification wise. I mean when you look at pickups, a 1 ton diesel from ford/chevy or dodge is going to be able to do anything they others can for all practical purposes. Sure some will say my dodge can pull better than a ford or vice versa but they will all pull the trailers reasonably well. With tractors on the other hand it is not the same same story. Just as in this case a branson 3510 will move round bales. People use them to do this everyday. A kubota 3400 will not. Does this make the kubota a bad tractor? No, but I am just saying all 35 hp tractors are not equal, capability wise. Same thing goes with the 3 point lift capacity. Say for example I had an implement that weighed 2200lbs. With the 3510 I could lift it and use it. With the 3400 I could not. Does this matter? Probably not for a lot of people, but it did for me. I wanted the most capable machine my money could buy.

bdog...I am an idiot!! You are correct...I mis-read your note as vehicle weight and not lift capacity. You were entirely clear after re-reading.

Mea Culpa.
