Branson 3520h - Hydraulic level confusion

Hi all,

I left everything alone for the night, figured I'd let it settle. I popped the fill cap this afternoon and either more fluid drained or the level went down very slightly- fluid is about a half inch below the top of the fill pipe. Sight glass remains empty.

I am stuck and am concerned with even running it. Is a full flush my option here? I am wondering what will change once I am refilling if nothing is present in the sight glass then.

It most likely is in the sight glass but because it is clear it is hard to see. They make a dye that you can use to help see the oil. Most John Deere dealers sell it. You can also get some at most automotive parts stores. It is used to locate oil leaks.

That's a great idea. Let me locate some dye and see if I can get something a bit more definitive.

Thanks!

I guess yours doesn't have a floating ball to indicate the level. This one is low:

This one is good:

Floating ball would awesome, but no, I dont have that.

It seems like this dye is eother hard to come by or costs a fortune for 10 gallons worth of fluid.

Maybe I'll drive around terrain slowly and have someone look at the sight glass at various positions. Never had an issue seeing fluid level before.

Raise the loader and dump the bucket. Extend the cylinders on the backhoe while checking the sight glass and a dipstick in the tank.

This is just a quick search. Does not seem to bad to me.

Early on in my 3520h ownership, I knock off a low pressure hydraulic return line that's under the tractor. Spilled an indeterminate amount of fluid.

I saw nothing in the sight glass so did what you did - keep filling.

I don't remember if I removed the excess when I finally figured out that it was already full enough - as far as I can tell if you overfill, the worst case is that extra will drain from the fill port when it gets hot and you're tilted?

What is the difference between the cheap stuff - traveller premium universal - and the not cheap stuff? Also, what would be the specs to look for?
+1 and loose the cheap stuff (TSC junk) too.
