I drained one side of front axle to replace oil seal . and added oil to just one side and it went to the other side also so apparently they share the same oil reserve . I messed up and use hyd 303 don't do it so now I have to redrain ans use proper oil which is Texaco or cheveron . someone recommended using dohn deere oil . not sure but I ordered a manual specifically for my tractor and will wait for it to come in before doing anything that's could hurt thr transmission

can the screen be cleaned or does it have to be replaced . I had a john deer 401b and the screen was metal and it could be cleaned .

I do not know on the 4720 but the 8050 is a metal screen which I clean and reuse.
I believe that I have seen somewhere that the front axle should be switched out to gear lube and not the hydraulic/transmission originally speced.

thank you but I ordered the service manual for the 4720h and should receive it soon . my tractor is a 2011 model and again I appreciate your answer. wow u have a big tractor.

Im pretty sure I read the same thing on the gear oil

Due to warranty, I can't do the service myself here in Portugal, so I had to go to the dealer. It's a small dealer so I was able to sit there and watch all the process. The mechanic checked the front diff fluid level with the dipstick not screwed. I don't think it would make any difference, it's just about 15 mm of thread and the fluid changes places all the time inside the diff.

Manual for my 2016 4520R says check front axle dipstick without threading in, just seated on top. Just did full service this weekend.
