Branson 4220
I have a 4220 and I can not get it to start. I believe it is a fuel issue. It cranks like a champ but doesn't act like it is getting any fuel. The glass filter bowl is full. When I pulled the out side of the lifter pump and tried to crank it nothing came out. I disconnected the in side of the pump and can blow into the tank with no problem. I checked the voltage of the lifter pump and I have 12V+.

What is confussing me is if fuel is never making it to the filter bowl why is it not emptying as I crank the engine and why doesn't it start then die?

I would check the electric fuel pump if your 4220 has one.
If its bad, its an easy fix= 15 minutes at the most.

I have a Century 2535. I know the Branson and Century are interchangable, but don't know your model number to know if it's the same as mine, or even similar.

Earlier this year, I had a similar problem. It was the electric fuel pump. Just disconnect the fuel line coming out of it and turn on the key. If fuel comes shooting out, then that's not the problem. In my case, nothing happened. I checked the voltage on the wires and was good, so it had to be the pump.

My dealer sold an aftermarket electrick fuel pump that fit in the same locatation, but was a bit bigger and the hose fitters were just a different. It didn't matter, it went right in real easy. I think it's a Mr. Gasket brand, or something like that. I could check if you need that info, just let me know. It was under $50 for the pump from him, which I thought was a bit high, but not so high to go running around town to find a better deal. He said that the pump from Branson would be another hundred bucks and he'd have to order it if I wanted it.

That pump makes allot more noise when you turn on the key. It annoyed me at first, but now it's kind of nice to hear it going when I turn on the key, before engaging the starter.

When replacing the pump, you have to go through the steps of clearing air out of the lines just like if you ran out of fuel. Loosen the injector lines until you get fuel leaking out of them, then tighten them up to get it started. It's a pain, but that's just part of owning a diesel.

If you have fuel coming out of the line, then I'd go through the steps of bleeding the air out of the lines until you get fuel leaking out of the lines at the injectors. Once you get to that point, it should start up.

Good luck,
Eddie
