Oh, hey, is that why the pictures of dieselfuelonly's tractor had a bucket over the stack? He bought a Yanmar, I think it was, and posted pictures of it with this big bucket on the muffler. Ha! I was hoping there was a reason for that and he wasn't just using his tractor as a bucket stand! :)

Old habits die hard I guess.

A bucket, can, or flapper tend to keep more than just the rain out. Such things as critters have been known to hide in dark places, and I prefer them not to be in my exhaust port.

That thought alone will convince me to turn that sucker back around, because the barrel of that thing is aiming right at me now. Anything in there is going right on my face! I don't care for critters! (Unless they are fried, then maybe)

You fire that big Ford up, whatever is in the exhaust manifold is going to be fried. A flapper is easy enough, but if you turn it sideways, your still going to need to cover it.

That's a good point sandman2234, but I was thinking more like deep fried. :)

I called the tractor guy and they STILL don't have my tooth bar or bale spear in. AAARGH! So in the mean time I snagged some shots that my wife has taken. I wish I could post these at full resolution because these are from an 8 mp camera and the detail is amazing at full res. Here are some critters and other assorted pics:

I'll be sure to post some pics of me drilling those holes with a paddle bit whenever that tooth bar comes in. :)

You do know how to sharpen a paddle bit, don't you? Because if you try to drill a bucket with one, your going to be on a need to know basis.
Nice pictures you took there...(got to give you credit for some, since the wife got credit for the others)

HA! Good one. I'm still waiting on the tooth bar, but I did have a little fun today with the paddle bit idea. I stopped by TSC to get some cutting oil and asked the teenager working there which of the paddle bits would do the best job at cutting a 1/2" hole in 1/4" steel. :) I let him struggle for a little while before letting the poor kid off the hook. He was reading the packages and everything trying to figure it out. I looked at the bits they had for metal, they had the Dewalt deals I already have, but also had a cobalt bit for "strong metals." It was $15, and the Dewalt was only $10. I don't know if it's $5 better. I'm going to try with my bit and see what happens. Worst case I destroy it and I'm out $10, then I can go try the $15 version. :)

I also took some time to look at their welders. :D I have no idea if they are decent ones or not (and don't need to turn this into a welding thread - I'll do some research here before getting anything). That is definitely something I am going to have to get. There's just too much cool stuff you can do with a welder. When I get there, I'll log back in here and get my "handy" merit badge. :)

The guys in the shop did that same thing to a new kid in a machine shop I worked at. They actually let him try to drill a hole using a drill press into a piece of 3" thick steel. When he burnt up the bit, they made him take it to the shop foreman who told him he must have been running it too fast. Gave him another one and told him if he burnt that one up he'd probably get fired. Poor kid didn't come back after lunch, so we sent somebody to his house to get him, after we found out what happened. He took the bunch of clowns seriously and was already starting to look for another job.
As far as a welder, there are plenty of places to read about "what should I get" so all you have to do is find a few of those posts. We here at TBN will be proud to help you spend your money.

That's great, poor fella. Hope he got a kick out of it when it was all said and done. I've been burned so many times, now I just assume people are messing with me. There may actually be a 33/64 bit out there that is just made for cutting holes to mount teeth in a bucket, but unless someone mails me one, I'll always assume it's a joke. :D

Yeah, I said that in another thread and I think I might have upset someone, like I was picking on their post. I didn't mean it bad at all. That's like our motto isn't it? :) Every time I manage to scrape up some free funds I log on to TBN for ideas on ways to spend it. My list is getting really long: back hoe, FEL Grapples, dual tandum axle trailer to haul my 6610, F-450 diesel dually to pull that trailer, second tractor - 4610?, FEL for it... and a bunch of stuff I actually need to run the farm!!! HA!
