Well it isn't raining now... so I took my coffee out to snap the pictures sooner than thought. I had to force on the flash so they are a little white washed. The bracket is stainless so I didn't paint that. I wish the baskets were too :D. I took a close up to show the way they can stack and the fold down gate on the front.

I like the fork system, appears to be quite simple. Think i'll make a set.

My nieghbor does the same thing with wooden farm totes (about the same size). He loads them on his flatbed trailer and takes it right into the woods. The wood stays in the totes to dry stacked two high. Nice system.

Good idea with the access door Jeff. Your setup looks great.

JJ...I concur, NICE set up.

I have a small time firewood business, but know how they big operations run, same thing you have but on a bigger scale, very nice!

I have a couple of those fold up baskets around here, that came loaded with aluminum when my old boss sold his shop. We figured the scrap pieces would bring some good change in, if he needed fast cash, which he did.
I sure would like some closer pictures of the working parts of that bell. I have a couple of old cylinders that I was going to make pipe out of, but would rather make a bell so the wife can aggravate the neighbors when she needs to get my attention and I am out in the woods. How loud is it?

At the National Ornamental metal Museum in Memphis they have three cylinders on a rod that are different lengths. These are attached to a main rod and has a wheel on the end of the rod. When you turn the wheel it rings all the cylinders, sounds good. If you are ever in memphis this museum is well worth the visit. They rotate displays in the museum and have a modern working blacksmith shop on the place.

Like the firewood baskets.

This is scary, I use the same baskets. Also have a big bell I made from drop 7 ga. steel.

sandman2234,
My dad owns a fabricating shop and built this for me as a Christmas gift. I can tell you that it is loud and continues to ring for a long while. I don't know exactly how he put it together other than there is a large heavy steel ball attached to a chain. He fabricated the loop on top and the "guts" will come out the bottom by releasing two set screws with collars on the center shaft on top.

One thing I have to do this spring is to modify the bell so that the wind will not swing the bell and cause it to ring on its own. It takes a strong wind to make it ring but that strong wind always seems to happen at 2-3:00 a.m. More than once I have had to get out of bed and tie off the bell to the water hydrant under it. For some reason my wife has never offered to do this task. :). I am now in the mental design stages of how to alter the design of the bell so that a second operation must be engaged to ring the bell. My initial thoughts are a rubber sleeve on a spring that must be first pulled down to expose the ball. I invision pulling the rope as you swing it to initiate the ring. Any ideas?
