Please, this is not to start a flame war. Today, while shopping for my neice and wife a present I came upon a Nissan Titan. Well, I have seen their adds were they end the spiel with "Bring it On". Well, even if I was not an import buyer I would have to be impressed by the Titan. This is not a 97% full size truck like the Tundra. This thing is a 300ish (plus or minus) horse behemoth /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif. It was quad cab, huge bed, gigantic tires. Everything was BIG /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif. I don't claim to know which truck is the bestest and mostest for all uses but I have to say the Titan looks serious. I know Ford and Chevy and Dodge still have the duallie and diesel market locked up but the Titan is, nonetheless, a major piece of truck that will have to be taken serious in the market for heavy duty gasoline machines. The Tundra is a luxury sport truck /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif, the Titan has the goods to be a contender for serious truck users. J

I don't know why anyone would want to start a flame war on your subject, this is America and folks should feel free to express an opinion. I have owned 3 Ford F150's and when I need to purchase a replacement for my 1990 model I would certainly look at the Titan. As I keep my vehicles for a long time it's important I get the best one I can for my dollars.

What I don't understand is why Toyota took such a long time to build a contender for the full size market that our domestic truck makers have locked up for so many years.

Nice to see the imports trying to play catchup to the american companies.

My father in law is a retired GM shift supervisor and my spouse has three brothers who build cars for GM, if I actually went out and purchased a Toyota I would be in a LOTTA trouble during the next family dinner. They keep hinting I can get a generous GM discount and that my Ford is getting old. How thoughtful of them to remind me.

tell those relatives that GM owns a piece of Toyota and suggest that if they want to pick your next vehicle, that they are also welcome to pay for it. I hate to say it, but Toyota makes a superior product to anything that GM has made in the last 30 years..... This is coming from a dyed in the wool GM fan from almost birth.... If it were not for GM's other ventures, they would have gone out of business many years ago. The really interesting thing about the automobile industry, is that the foreign manufacturers were shipping smaller cars when the American manufacturers were producing larger cars than the public wanted. Now the American manufacturers have downsized the vehicles and the foreign manufacturers are making larger cars than their American counterparts.... The coin just keeps flipping over...

BINGO! It irks me when others try to TELL me which automobile manufacturer(s) I should spend my hard-earned money on. I don't mind others suggesting different models for me to look at, but the old GUILT TRIP for wanting to buy a non-American vehicle is sure to start an argument with me.

I'm going to have to remember this line, Junkman. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif It is short and right to the point. Nothing more should have to be said after that.

GOOD point on the quality issue of GM versus Toyota. For many years the quality of domestic vehicles was poor compared to imported ones. I don't want to start a dispute but I personally feel the quality of cars built by Toyota, Nissan, etc. was a major reason US automakers finally began to care about building their products with fewer defects.

For many years cars and trucks built here suffered from quality problems and they sold most of what they built which led to a "who cares" attitude. Thanks to the competition from overseas we now have better vehicles produced here.

It will be interesting to see how things sort out. To me, Datsun always seems to be behind Toyota. Now they step in with the "Big-3".

The specs and initial magazine reports I have seen rate it high, most times higher then the F150 for power.

I am interested to see how it shakes out as a truck. So many people do not utilize the capabilities of thier trucks. I want to see how it does hauling loads consistently.

I would say too, that it is not a heavy duty truck; niether are the other 1/2 tons(IMHO, of course). Heavy duty is getting in to the 3/4 and 1-ton classes.

'Scuse me, been a while since I have seen a new Datsun pickup in mid-Michigan.....

New full size pickups are able to carry payloads far in excess of the half/three-quarter/one ton description applied to them. Even my antique 1990 F150 is rated to carry 2100 lbs. over the actual curb weight of 4100 with me aboard. Long overdue for some revising.
