Bring It On

As soon as I heard about the Titan and it’s 305 hp engine I was interested. I have not seen one in person as of yet. If I like it’s looks and it runs like my wife’s new V-6 Altima I will be looking into trading my Dodge 318 cid in on one sometime this coming year. I like a vehicle that really responses when I want it too. The Dodge Hemi engine looks like it could fill the bill but it appears to only be available in their high-end expensive trucks whereas the Titan comes fully powered in all versions. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

MANY MANY , years ago a friend of mine had an old land cruiser, we used to take it hunting in the mountains, what that thing could not drive though we could winch it though, what a great vehicle.

And the original design came from a small company in Butler PA called Bantam. The house I was born in (not literally) was two doors down from a man named Mr. Parks who worked through the VERY short timeframe that they had to get a prototype to the military. Eventually the Govt gave the contract to others due to concern that Bantam couldn't produce enough, fast enough. Bantam got a contract for trailers for the Jeep. But none the less, Butler PA is the home of the Jeep. Astoundingly, I think they are going to tear down the factory that built the first Jeep ever. We never seem to miss an opprtunity to miss an opportunity. The place could be a Jeep museum and draw tourists from around the world. Small minds... They'll probably put Butlers 3rd Walmart there!!! /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Yes, the Bantam was the original GP. There was a pretty big competition for the contract. It is a little bit funny that a large percentage of the GP' were Ford, built to Willy's specs. That is what I was born in, as was my sister. A '42 Ford GP. Had the little Ford "F" on the bolts and stuff.

I wonder what the success of Bantam would have been if they had secured that contract???

My favorite plane is the F4x series Corsiar. It was built, of course, by Chance-Vought, but also Goodyear and a second company that slips my mind at the moment. Chance-Vought and Goodyear planes saw action. Most planes built by the third company were used as trainers. Chance-Vought simply could not support the volume required, so it took three companies to do it. That was common for many products.

My reference to the vehicle built for US military contract was about the post WW-II Landcruiser. It was in part to build a heavier duty, enclosed cab all weather GP. It was also in part to help in the rebuilding of Japanese industry, in this case getting Toyota rolling.
