Re: Bring on the weeds \"Homemade Sprayer\"

Yea it can be done either way, with a pressurized tank or a just the hose part, in either case you have to shut the pump down, and if you build your own and use a PTO powered pump, how would shutting the pressure off be accomplished other than by manually engaging and disengaging the PTO?

Re: Bring on the weeds \"Homemade Sprayer\"

BOY HOWDY I think I started osmething here...

I was thinking about adding a SMALL pressure tank (made from an old used propane grill tank as those are throwaways all over the place now. And SPRING clean up in the local towns is comming up, I always see about 20 of them just passing through... attach the IN line to the tank, mounting it UPSIDE down, that way the liquid will fill up the tank and the trapped air will pressurize slightly so less pulsing as the pump works. now any thoughts>???

yes the tank would need to be purged of propane, easy enough to do with an air hose/gun. the fitttings I think can be bought and made up with a little pipe and such. anyhow those NEW tanks that were mandated really left a lot of extras out to the curb.

Hi
No need to throw the old tanks away. just exchange them for a refilled tank with the new style valve and pay a one time charge of 4 dollars. We have exchanged 4 tanks already for the new style and have 2 to go as soon as we use up the gas.

Oh yes that is true, but around here lots of people toss the grill and tank in the spring and buy NEW ones, they leave them at the road and the garbage guys WON"T take the empties or 1/2 full tanks! last year the local ju8nk scrounger got enough 1/2 full tanks to last all year BBQing! oh well soem people just won't use a rusty grill I guess!

Huh???? I've never heard of a pressurized spray tank. Must be my ag background getting in the way again. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif So your electric pump is actually an air pump??? How do you aggitate the chemicals? Can you adjust the pressure cut-out the pump will stop & start at?

A pto pump pumps the fluid, all the time - tank is vented & gets no pressure. You use a $15-25+ pressure regulator valve to set your pressure to the line. This regulator valve is real good at keeping a constant pressure. You can dial in any pressure you want, simple thumb-screw adjustment.

The overflow of this pressure valve is piped back into the tank, used as aggitation to keep the chemicals is suspension. Works very well.

I have to take a test every 3 years & must follow labels to the letter or I can be fined with mis-using the farm chemicals. You learn different chemicals need different droplet sizes to do their thing.

Couldn't possibly use a pressurized tank with it's variable pressure for my operation. Not to mention the tank would blow up. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

An example of many different real sprayer parts including the pressure relief valve would be at:

Re: Bring on the weeds \"Homemade Sprayer\"

Definately your ag background. Many of the SMALL spray tanks are pressurized and virtually all the large tanks are not.

That is why I said it depends on how you plumb the system.

it should be ok I am level and will add weight to the front too beside I don't have to put 50 gls in the tank

Re: Bring on the weeds \"Homemade Sprayer\"

what kind of psi you figurein from a electric pump if you got a good one maybe 60. dont matter much in most applications but would limit you if you sprayin trees.
you hook up a horozonal shaft 5 hp gas motor to a 4 roller pump an no need for pto or batery an still get 120psi
