I was pushing up a bunch of tree limbs into a piles to burn and just after I finished the third pile and parked the FEL or backhoe wouldn't work. Found the hydraulic filter housing dented all up and the bracket that the filter screws on to was pouring oil out. It is either broken or a gasket blown. I will have to remove everything tomorrow and see what I need but I expect the bracket is cracked and likely have to be ordered. Sure hope it is not as tight to get to as brother in laws was last summer. He broke the bracket on his NH working on one of the same piles of limbs.

Wow, that stinks. Hope you get it fixed quick. Next time you have to work on that pile of limbs I'd suggest dynamite :D

One of those days.......

Happens enough, using ag tractors in brush. Hopefully it will be a cheaper fix for you than changing out a rad.

Can't remember if it was a Kub, but I seem to recall somebody making up a decent looking skid bracket/plate for their hydraulic filter, after a similar adventure.

Have a better one tomorrow !

Rgds, D.

isn't it shielded around most of it, or just a stray branch hit it? sometimes nice to have a bigger rig in those situations w/more clearance.... hey, hope easy fix

After all the seat time that you have accrued, I'll bet that was a surprise to you. Hope you have a warm place to work on it.

Yep, got about 300 hours of seat time and this is the first time anything actually broke. The way I use that thing for a bulldozer pushing thru fence lines and honeysuckle / saw briars etc it is a miracle that I haven't ripped something off before now. Last week a small pine sapling stuck up thru that same area and wedged my throttle cable to about 1800 RPM even after I got the stick out. Had to hook a strap on it and then use the FEL to pull it out, then I had to remove the rear tire to adjust the cable.
There is some skid plates under it but that filter is pretty much exposed even though it is nestled up off the ground a bit. It is pretty safe running forward over saplings but the problem happens when you leave one standing and have to back up and then they like to spear up under the tractor. I think it was 4 shorts who build a skid plate for one of his tractors to cover the entire bottom. It might not be that hard to fix one up, but just using it as a tractor and not a dozer would be a good start.

Gary, sorry to hear that. Do you have any photos of the damage? Stanley

I had a branch or something go up into the engine compartment one day and it made a loud noise and a puff of smoke. I backed off and it cleared up. When I finished my day, I opened the hood and looked around and the ends of the fan are ground down a little. No other visible damage though and it's still running fine.

It broke the filter housing (cast aluminum) The whole thing is hold in place by one bolt and an o-ring seal where it goes into the oil reservoir and then another o-ring seal (again one bolt) on top where the pump suction line attaches. I will get a photo of the piece later and post it.

I got the parts ordered,(not in stock of course) $50 filter housing, $30 for the filter, $4 for 2 O-rings
got some photos of the cast aluminum housing and ridged pipe connection. Something is wrong somewhere cant get the manage attachments to open up. I'll try later to put on some pic.
