Opened my hood to change oil for the 100 hour service and noticed that the metal strap holding my air filter was broken at the mounting. After removing the strap and deciding it was designed poorly for its purpose I decided to replace it with something stronger and a little more flexible. I remembered that I had a favorite leather belt in my closet that somehow shrank over the years and no longer fits me but the width was exactly the width of the metal strap. I used the old metal strap as a template and cut the belt to length. Drilled holes on my drill press and installed the belt. All this took about an hour. I bet the belt holds longer than a replacement metal strap. Plus it gives the engine compartment a western flare.
