Digging out a stump and hydraulic fluid starts spraying out of the dipper cylinder. Looks like the cylinder bent into the frame and bent the frame and the cylinder. Shouldn't there be some kind of safety mechanism to make sure this does not happen? Anyone think this is covered by warranty?

I would have thought your relief valve would have popped?? Why it did not I am not sure unless you had a weak spot in there someplace. I don't know how old the system is but yes it should be covered under warranty if still in the warranty. Now a dealer may say abuse but if it is brand spanking new then he didn't set it up right.

All you can right now is call the dealer and see what he says.

Wow. Sorry to see that. I have pulled quite a few stumps with my 756c without too much trouble. Well, the bucket has seen better days. Maybe it's because of a lack of ower (24hp). I took a look at mine and my fitting points up instead of down.

Wow, that looks a lot like what happened to Volnavy's Kubota & backhoe. Check out this thread and picts: thread.

It looks like you have a good warranty claim to me. The only way you could cause that kind of problem by misuse is to drive the tractor while the dipper is extended and against an immovable object. The cylinder should never bend only from hydraulic pressure. I suspect your cylinder's ram is faulty or the pressure is adjusted too high. Bummer! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Isn't it strange how this has showed up on different brands of backhoes?

I've got a pine stump to dig out today, and now I'm scared to do it after seeing this. I will for sure check the relief valve pop before I get going. Hope the dealer will take care of you.

Why the dealer? Dealers do not assemble major backhoe components, nor do they assemble the control valve from a bag of spools and circuit reliefs. The dipper circuit may have a circuit relief valve to protect that circuit from being overloaded by another circuit that has superior leverage against it. The dealer should check the dipper circuit relief, if one exists, prior to completion of the repair.

Interesting -- looks like the same problem. I will call the dealer tomorrow and see what happens

I had a similar situation with my JD48 backhoe. I was digging a stump. As you can see from the attachment, the cylinder bent.

Although it was covered under warranty, the dealer maintained that it could not happen from the hydraulics, which it did. He replaced the cylinder and checked the relief valve. The relief valve was working properly.
