Broken Bolt Or Plug By PTO?

I'm thinking it happened an hour or two before I finished Mowing.....but that's just a guess.

I cleaned the area up around the hole.....it was as dirty as the rest. The back of the tractor was dirty before but the leak attracted a lot more dirt. I had been mowing about 4 acres....not sure when it happened.....as I noticed it after I was done mowing.

Yeah the end of the "bolt" almost looks made that way.

I am confused about just where the fluid is coming from......I'm assuming it's around the flat spot on the "bolt". I couldn't really see up in the flat spot hole there to know for sure whats what. I may try to look in there with a laser pointer. I don't live near my tractor otherwise I'd go look now.

I don't think it was a sight window.....but I wouldn't bet money on that :D

I checked a couple of tractors on my lot and it is just a blank hole with it feels like a rubber plug in it.
It is not a broken bolt.

Hey all... I felt around on mine and the plugs feel like they are metal. So I concur that you might be able to just use some kind of plug.

I haven't looked at my parts manual, but is it possible that these two plugs cover the holes for shift rods, and that the thrust of a rod travel has pushed the plug out?

That could be possible......that rod in there looks like it has some kind of job to do.

My parts manual never showed that area.....so we may never know just what it's for.

I need to get someone else to operate some levers while I watch and see if it moves. That'll be next week some time.

FYI**The plug is 1 of 2 and it is found on pg 172 in the Chasis Rear Axle/ PTO shaft (46) Pg # 173 part # 7 and covers the shaft/pto fork, so a rubber plug may pop out. BUT you should look into why the shaft forced the plug seal out anyway. fjb
