I took a closer look at the casting with a local mechanic. He chipped away at the casting and noticed that it had already been re-welded and epoxied. We bought the tractor from Pikeville John Deere in Oley, PA as a demo unit with less than 100 hours and no mention of any damage like this. So, we're just getting a casting from a salvage yard (~800 bucks) and having our local mechanic repair it correctly. Somehow we got taken though by the dealer which is very frustrating.
