I took a closer look at the casting with a local mechanic. He chipped away at the casting and noticed that it had already been re-welded and epoxied. We bought the tractor from Pikeville John Deere in Oley, PA as a demo unit with less than 100 hours and no mention of any damage like this. So, we're just getting a casting from a salvage yard (~800 bucks) and having our local mechanic repair it correctly. Somehow we got taken though by the dealer which is very frustrating.

I can see how that would be frustrating! I'd like to say go back to the dealer and make them fix it properly and give you back some of your money, however, they've already proven themselves to be dishonest and by the time you add up lawyer fees and court fees it would cost more than having it fixed yourself. It's unfortunate that some dealers are like that! Glad your getting it fixed, I was wondering how you made out.
