I was bush hogging down a hill and heard this awful sound come out from under the tractor. After taking a good look, I have busted up the fan that is under the seat...is that to cool down the transmission? What it the best way to replace this part?

Hi - I did this on my 2210 and took it into the dealer for repair. I should have asked them how much it was going to cost, but didn't. It ended up being a few hundred bucks to do the work, due to the fact that they had to remove part of the driveshaft to slide the fan over (I think that's where it was - it was a few years ago).

I made up my mind that, if I were to do it again, I would band saw the new fan in two and epoxy it in place over the shaft. It's a cheap plastic fan and would accept epoxy well.

That fan is a poor design due to the fact that it is so exposed. I welded up a small protector below the new one - just not so big that it would impede air flow.

Good luck, AP

If you search for 2305/2210 fan repairs there are quite a few threads that deal with this..

Someone was able to replace the fan without tearing into the tractor.. They cut the fan in half and then reinstalled it on the tractor by glueing it back together..

I think that this will be a JD repair...It is time for a few other things, so this will be an opportunity to get the oil changed, make adjustments, and have JD take a look at the overall health of my 2305. Thanks for the advice about the glue, but i can not see me risking the entire tractor over a few hundred dollars. I am in it for the long run and have to make repair decisions accordingly.

After really looking at it...and bending back the not so heavy guard, I may just not repair it. I still have over 2" blades on all sides. It looks like I just tipped the edges...like a haircut. Can anyone tell me how long the blades are when new?

I'm sure that will work real well -

Folks why would you want to cheap out on this repair - it's a pretty important part that needs to work and work well - my God!!!

Dont laugh too hard until you tried it.. TBN members are a touch bunch and if there is a way to save money or time, someone will figure out how to save them..

It worked for him and from what I remember in the post he had no problems with it operating properly.. It is also cheaper than having the dealer replace the fan.. IIRC you have to get into the transmission to change out the fan

Here is the links to a bunch of articles..
