Although it is out of warranty, there is a cost to Kubota here. I was considering a BH76 this spring for my tractor, and this thread has definitely cooled me down on that idea.
The
BH77? with the broken pins makes me think too.
But, let's say I market something. I make thousands, and most are great, but some are not. If I have a place where people can brag or complain, who is more motivated to post? I am more motivated to post by a serious problem than just to tell folks my stuff works as good as I think it should: "My BH is still new, and it dug another hole today, really quite a deep one, and it didn't destroy itself! I am SO PLEASED. If it has dug 5 holes without fail, it should be able to do at least 50!"
Therefore, it is possible that the incidence is quite low. But....what is true, and will always be true, is that those who have a nasty problem are burned and want relief. So, in the end, it is how manufacturers handle these things that is critical.
The chances of a new BH doing this is low. The chances of me going off like a rocket if my low hour BH did that are 100%. Fixing it under warranty correctly is not a favor, it is a duty and a requirement. Fixing it slightly out of warranty is NOT required, but it is a favor, and a favor is bragged on, and approved of by the owners at large because it was optional, yet still offered. We all know "stuff happens" but these favors allow us users to tolerate it when it happens to us.
It better not get to a point that a 1 year warranty is your only assurance that you can use a BH more than a year. If that is true, Mom and Pop fabricators will grow like weeds, since they can make a BH better than that!
