Broke the PTO shaft of rear mounted snow blower, it came in contact with trailer hitch. Repaired shaft, discovered the PTO shaft on the tractor no longer works, just spins freely. 2001 L3010, anyone had experience with replacing possible broken shaft?

The video forum member Peace supplied is excellent.

Here is the section from the WSM on removing the pto shaft.

Does your machine have a mid pto and if so how is it acting.
Before starting to take things apart, make certain the pto control levers are fully engaged.

Why is that? I have a flip shaft (540-1000) pto on my M9's and when exchanging shafts, the PTO is always in neutral. Had the back case on the cab tractor off before and the only thing you have to be careful about is making sure the shaft coupling that drives the pto gears is engaged properly ( shaft comes from the wet pto clutch assembly in front of the axle assembly) Other than that removal of the rear case is easy and there is no gasket either. When putting it back together, clean off the sealant and apply a smear of Kubota 3 Bond anaerobic sealant to the mating surfaces. It is rather heavy (case assembly) so be apprised of that. removal of the shaft is straight forward but I'd inspect the gear train in the rear case cover for damage as well as the tapered roller bearings.
