broken stump grinder

   / broken stump grinder #21
I have used my stump grinder on a bunch of large hardwood stumps with no problems other than a small oil leak somewhere. The grinder was heavily used when i got it.

It seems kind of brute force and maybe i push it too hard but it works well.

I am still wrapped up in this whole build my own grinder.. One design I am looking at is sideways.

Iowa Farm Equipment -- Baumalight Stump Grinders

I wonder now, having seen this damage, if mounting the grinder sideways and pushing it through the would will add pressure.

Then again, I guess you move the grinder side to side if it is normally mounted.....

toy just a fyi the break goes through a roll pin hole almost dead center but the break misses the pin hole on the other side matter of fact broken stub is still retained by something not to keen on digging in it been cut before stickin my fingers where they do not belong especially considering all the oil present and metal pieces

That is kind of what it looked like to me. To take the blade off of the hub that it is mounted to, and unbolt the motor from the L shaped piece that it is mounted to and pull the motor off of that piece, would that leave a big enough cavity for the hub that the cutter blade is mounted to to go through that hole. If it will then you can pull the motor get a roll pin punch that fits the roll pin and drive the broken one out, get a new hub and install it with a new sheer pin and push the hub back through that hole in the L shaped bracket then bolt the motor flanges back on and reinstall the cutter blade. If that is how it went together then that is how you would repair it, you might have to do a little cleaning on it for the parts to go through, but you might just need a new blade hub. Hope this might help you fix it without much cost, sometimes my size perception is off when it comes to looking at pictures as one might be a closer shot than the other. When it broke off you never mentioned a massive oil leak I don't think so maybe it might be an easy fix hope so best of luck.

When You get the blade off of the hub then maybe the smaller portion of the hub might be bolted on to the larger part, just happened to think to mention that also.
