Brown mowers: Any info?

Thanks for pointing that out. That could be something one could easily overlook. But I am planning to get the HD12 model tractor. Basically that has higher hydraulic pump flow with larger bore cylinders as well as a 12-speed transmission. The 3ph lift capacity 24" back is 7,000lbs!! I would probably be okay. But it's probably not necessary.

I should have looked at Brown's website before I posted above. That 600 series model is pretty extreme - all 1/4" material and with 6" wide blades. The 600 gearbox is rated 145hp where the 400 gearbox is 120. One job this machine would be good for is grinding up rows of apple tree prunings - a very high energy and violent operation that can rip up a rotary cutter deck made with 10 ga material. It may be that for general property reclamation and maintenance the 484 might be a better match? 1375 pounds centered 5 feet behind your rear wheels is manageable but 2200 might be pushing it, especially in the woods. With a nice heavy FEL and/or a big grapple, the imbalance would be less, but the 684 will seem like a lot of freight behind any Mxx40. My 2 cents.

As another poster suggested, give them a call. I've called them a couple of times - really nice people. I needed to get a gear box for my old 1970's vintage tree cutter, called them up - no problems. I've been really happy with my tree cutter, I was doing something dumb when I destroyed the gear box, and didn't know about frozen slip clutches - so it was my fault for putting too much stress on a nearly 40 year old box. More experience - dearly gained!

I have a 5ft tree cutter and it is a Beast. Most ROW companies use Brown cutters and a few even use mowers designed for the front 3pt hitch. The office in Alabama is very helpful. Most of your bigger dealers can get you one. MachineFinder had 1-2 several weeks back, try there if you want a used one.
