Antibiotics and steroids haven't been shown to help much. If I'm not mistaken, even early surgical debdridement doesn't help much. A medicine called Dapsone is the drug of choice. Immediate icing is indicated.
You are most likely to encounter these spiders in your bedroom than your barn. They live in barns, etc, but its inside our cloths and bedding that we usually run into them in a bad way. Fortunately they are not common and they are, well, reclusive...but a lot of indoor spiders do look a lot like them. They are usually smaller than photos make them look (1.5cm including legs). Most bites are very mild.
