Rotary Cutter Brush Bull Rotary Cutter

I contacted one of my local implement suppliers and asked him for a recommendation on a rotary cutter (did not specify size or use) and a post hole digger with a 9" auger. He asked me (1) Horsepower of my tractor and (2) Lawn or field. He recommended;

5' Woods BrushBull - $860.
Leinbach with a 9" auger - $425.

I had also called my friendly TSC. They recommended;

5' KK - $1,000 (they don't stock the 4' model)
Post Hole Digger with 9" auger - $470

I'm kind of surprised that TSC came out more 14% more expensive, or are the Woods mower and Leinbach unit of lesser quality?

That's a good price on the Woods Brush Bull. I had two different dealers quote me $960-980 for the 5' standard duty, and that was as part of the package deal at the time of buying the tractor.

I'm looking into a 5' rotary cutter purchase this Spring. I've already been convinced (from here) not to buy a used one. I've been quoted $1,195 for a Woods Brush Bull, with shear pin protection from my local dealer. I was quoted $899 for the same machine from a dealer in VT where I saved $300 on my Meteor blower this past Fall. Upgrade to a slip clutch is $993. I'm thinking that would be $94 well spent???

Brad - The dealer mentioned that the regular price was $1,075. Plue he agreed to deliver the mower, post hole digger and a rotary spreader 15 miles to me for another $45.

P.C. - Hopefully others can chime in about the slip clutch. $94 seems like a good price although I think I recall threads on TBN that indicate some maintenance is needed on slip clutches? So, if the area you're cutting is likely to consume vast quantities of shear bolts/pins, a slip clutch is desirable. If not, it might be cheaper and less work to buy a few shear bolts/pins.

Leinbach is definitely not lesser quality. I have a number of leinbach equipment items (check my profile for pics) including the post hole digger. They are just affordable. I paid $395 with a 9inch auger. As for slip clutch/shear pin my opinion is this. I have a slip clutch on my rhino. If you are going to be cutting saplings or hitting stumps and rocks a lot then the slip clutch will work out a lot better and pay for itself. If you will just be mowing fields and rarely do any ruff stuff then save the money and use shear pins.
