Case 90xt Deere 5105
She still needs paint so don’t judge her too harshly. Picked up a Deere 609 brush cutter. Found a chart that showed heavy duty brush cutters and searched till I found one close to home. It’s rated for 4” stuff. Did the formula and I’m thinking I bought a 10 ci motor. 5/8” hoses and and a motor relief bypass valve. Used a 150 series love joy bored and fit to a 21 spline adapter for the gear box. Ran it for an hour today cutting tall grass and brush. Cut some 4” small trees down with ease. Overall I’m pleased so far. Thanks for the help and suggestions.

Nice fabrication work! Lot of folks talk about it but good to see a successful build.

Couple of questions. Do skidsteer cutters have slip clutches on the driveline? Motors that size need a case drain? GPM and pressure?

No slip clutch. That’s one function of the motor relief valve, in case you hit something and over pressure it. Motor said case drain was optional. Skid steer doesn’t have one so if I tear a motor up I’ll add one. 23 gpm @ 3000 psi

Thanks for the info. Really nice job. Could use something like that.

Any thoughts of needing extra operator protection? Chain or rubber guards on the cutter? Screen door like on the sides or full face motorcycle helmet? Have seen them being used but never have talked to an operator.

I made sure I boxed in the back to keep as much debris as possible inside the cutter. I was pretty apprehensive at first, my machine only has heat so I run without the door when it’s warm. A few buddies have em and they said they don’t have problems with stuff coming back at them as long as they keep the cutter low. I imagine if you raised it up a couple feet it’d be a different story. I always wear safety glasses, work habit, but didn’t have much other than some grass clippings on me

Danfoss OMS motor ? Then you only need a case drain if the return pressure exceeds a certain value. When using OMS 250 in series for slurry distributor heads, we hooked both case drains together so both motors could drain in the return line after the last motor, irrespective of turning direction.
