Hope that makes sense?!? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Someone with better mower vocabulary can probably explain better. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
)</font>

Makes complete sense. So I would take that also to mean that the blades for the RC must be completely proprietary. I'm used to the type of blades that have cutting edges at both ends--like the ones on the finish mowers.

Great explanation fellas. This should go in the FAQ. Errrrrr, whose working on the FAQ?? /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Not really, Toolz. The blade design is pretty common. For replacement, you just need to get same length, and same bolt hole size/position. Some replacement blades have an additional hole mid-portion of blade. Some ops use that hole to place bolt and stack of washers. That arrangement prevents the two blades from jamming on top of one another if one blade make a strike and goes backward. Sometimes, the stack space between blades is minimal, and the two blades can jam. The bolt acts as a stop.

A picture is worth a thousand words...

Now I completely get it and what they mean by "hinged" blades. Can't get more basic than that design huh? /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

And now I also understand why the RC mower couldn't possibly make an awesome finish mower.

Here's a picture of one of the three spindles with a blade on the underside of my finish mower.

And, here is a picture of the kind of results you can get with the PT finish mower and a good year with plenty of rain. This year, my yard looks like a dirt patch. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

And just to add another design to the mix...
The 180 offers a "single" blade mower that has a single bar across the bottom that doesn't have a cutting edge at all. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Instead it has two short blades like those on the RC cutter attached to either end with two bolts holding each. I use cheap grade bolts to hold them on and when I mow rough stuff which usually causes a bolt to snap if I hit something and I keep from damaging a blade. Raise the deck, jump off the tractor, grab a new bolt washer and nut out of the tool box and 1 minute and 15 cents later I'm cutting again! I developed this technique after ruining a set of $18 blades on a hidden rock!

Gosh, I would like to see a pic of that blade set up when you get the chance

I have the 48" finish but wish I had the 60" so it would be easier to mow close to walls and fences.

The tallest grass I have had to mow was about 15". First time over did not look too great but once it was down it was easy to maintain.

I haved used this mower for cutting short roses, buckbrush, and junipers to 15-18 inch size and took out a small patch of 4-5 foot high blackberries by tilting front of mower up and using it like 'chipper'.
