Brush Cutting Blades for a 54C Deck?

Does anyone know of a company that makes blades that will turn a garden tractor mow deck into a brush hog? I have a great deal ofweeds/brush/poison ivy I wish to mow down. I don't want to buy a dedicated brush mower. I would like to change out the blades on my deck for mowing the brush.

The deck is a 54C on a JD X585.

Any help is appreciated.

Biggest problem with the 54C deck is getting over what you want to cut, if there is any size to it. However, I would suggest the gator style blade. They are heavier duty than the Deere blades (which seem to be 'softer' and bend easier than the blades that were available for my older 54" decks).

I'm not advocating using your deck for brush cutting, but I chop up a lot of pretty good size hickory and oak sticks and limbs, no problem with mine.

Again, with brush, I would worry more about the thin tires on these size tractors than anything, as far as damage goes. I also would put on a front bumper (built one out of oak and bolted it to the weight bracket) to push over the brush so as not to damage the hood (I don't like even a small scratch in mine).

If it's really brush (i.e. small saplings and other woody material) and not just weeds, you've got more to worry about than just the blades. Odds are that the bearings, housings, and mounting method can't take the beating.

Buying replacement parts can get pretty expensive for some of these decks. (How do I know this? /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif)
