I built four forks for a friend out of 1 1/2" black pipe from Lowe's. They attached like so many of the "bucket forks" - a clamp with a large bolt. Don't do it! That black pipe bends so easily it is ridiculous. Can't tell you how many times they have had to be straightened.
For my little BX, four pallet/brush forks were built. Pretty simple really.
