Made mine from tractor-trailer mud-flaps ( cut it on a band-saw ), used angle iron, fender washers, bolted-on and spaced it a couple of inches away to allow for high grass to exit...been using it for 6yrs. , still solid, works great, way cheaper than the chain set-up/cost and durable...chopped-up plenty of rocks and no problems

Welcome to TBN!

If you can get some "conveyor belt" like they use in the coalmines that works great.

When I worked in the mines they let employees have some of the old belt... I made a guard for mine and it works great.

If you use conveyor belt, then you need to cut it so the belt won't fold back under the bush-hog when pulling it, because the blades will cut into it.

I thought about telling you where you could go to find no cost mudflaps, but your profile doesn't list the country, state or area that you reside, so I can't begin to list all of the places you can find them. Truckers learn where we leave used mudflaps.

Welcome to TBN loweman!! If you fill out your profile....we can know allot more about you and the kind of cutter you want to put a chain guard onto.

I built front one for my King Kutter (cause I can see the spinning blade tips from the tractor seat ).....and had to position it about 6" forward of the deck so the chains wont drape into the blades.

I am considering adding a rear guard this winter. Do a search for "chain guards" and you will find lots of pics and advice on the topic.

I wanted to stop the dust from blowing on me when mowing on dry days more then anything else, so I cut an old tire in half and bolted it to the front of my mower deck. The angle on it allows it to slide over the ground when I have it low, but the shape of the tire catches the dust and sends it off to the side. Nothing gets through that tire!!!

I used some conveyor belt from our plant to make my guard, still have to make one for the back. I may have to move the front guard out some to miss the blades but we will see, I guess it will self clearance it self. I have about 75 feet of 24" of belting to play with so I can get it right.
