Mowing Brush hogging rates

   / Brush hogging rates #21
After catching a stump and ripping off my clutch pedal bracket at the neighbor's I when back on the backhoe and dug it and a couple more out. It was expensive at the dealership but found a new one on line for just under $100 and felt lucky. We had to replace it in the bramble so we could move it because it needed to go forward because I got over the stump before I realized the damage it had caused. I pulled the fuel shut off to kill it since I had no clutch.

I know these are the going rates, but they really are cheap if you think about it... compared to lawn mowing. People pay maybe $25 to get their 1/4 acre lots mowed, but then subtract house, driveway, and landscaping it's probably 1/8 acre. That means $200/ per acre! My mom has an acre, but not all is grass- probably 1/2 acre or less. She has been busy a few times and hired someone to do it and they charged $80.

The are also using equipment that costs less, is cheaper to maintain, and is easier to transport. And there is very little risk to their equipment for "unknowns." And let's not forget the fact that there is a lot less competition around for tractors.

I haven't checked around but I bet I couldn't get a skid steer with operator for less than $100/hour, and a decent size tractor costs more than most skidsteers. And once again, there is probably less equipment-damaging risk.

I asked an outfit once to mow that lot in the pic of my ZTR mowing high grass and was quoted $200.. 1 acre minus buildings..

I dont know if thats the case in my area. Around here, it seems everybody and his brother has a 2n or 8n and 5' hog willing to do a crap job for beer money:mur:

Most in the mower business dont have to deal with those types. Thier competition is usually other legit mowing outfits, that do alot of work.

I get calls all the time inquiring on price. Like "how much would you charge me to mow 3 acres and I live (30 minutes away one way)." When I tell them $150 or $200 some of them about flip out. And usually reply "the farmer down the road did it last year for $50"

Well, sorry. I am in it to make money. NOT lose money. Go get that farmer to do it again...

It's funny how people think complaining will change the cost. If they could pay someone to do it that cheap again, they probably would not be calling you...
