So I was burning my brush pile today and thought it wasn't going fast enough so I got out my leaf blower/vacuum and thought I'd give it some extra air, but my wife had used it last fall for sucking up leaves and mulching them into the bag, so when I turned it on, the fire got sucked into the bag.

Now I'm a pretty calm man, but standing there with a bulging bag full of fire worried me, so while I tried to find the switch to blow the fire back where it belonged, I accidently pointed the business end of the leaf blower at ground. When I flicked the switch, the whooosh shot me 15 feet into the air and I landed in the pin oak tree.

My wife came out of the house about then to see what all the yelling was about. I told her I was blowing the last of last years leaves out of the pin oak tree. I don't think she bought it though, she wanted to know why my sneakers were smoking and all I could come up with to say was that I thought they were old enough.

So I siphoned some gas out of the LT and put some of that on the brush, put away the leaf blower/vacuum and lit the fire. My wife came out and asked what all the yelling was about this time , so I said I got tired of climbing around in the pin oak trying to suck up the left over leaves and decided to burn them off, but I don't think she bought it. She asked me why my shirt was smoking and all I could think to say was that if my shoes were allowed, then I had to let my shirt smoke too.

Next month I'm going to pick up the chipper/shreadder I bought on Ebay. The brush pile will have to wait until then.

Cliff

No, really. I actually did buy a chipper/shreadder on Ebay.

Great story! Murphy's law in action.

And speaking of fire...I was grinding metal, when my wife walked by. She started pointing at me, so I shut off the grinder. At the same time she said "you're on fire, you know"... I knew, because I then felt the heat.

The sparks had burnt holes through both my sweatshirt and tee shirt!

I doubt anyone will be too surprised to find out that we're actually not allowed to burn leaves or brush where I live, and I would never knowingly break the law. The tale was streatched a little where I told about the brush. Well, and the fire and the tree and the gas and, well, pretty much everything else (except the chipper).

Glad to folks enjoyed it.

Well LOL, and I am glad your OK.

I had a similar experience with my brush pile and a neighbor. I had been working all day on it, lots of earth and green branches. So it was a slow smolder at best. The neighbor comes over and asks if he can dump some old gasoline on it.

Silly me, I said sure.

Well. not only does he have 2-gallon containers, but he has a 5-gallon container too.

Silly me, I am NOT paying attention. I tell him to go to the other end, where it is NOT burning, and pour it there.

Silly me, kaboom! Much yelling. Cursing, arm movement, jumping. Yep, poured it right on.

I tell him, ahhhhh, PLEASE don't do that again. Kindof pissed now, but polite. Darn foolish ya' know.

Well things settle down again, and like a frigging BOMB goes off.
Knocks me on MY BUTT.

I live by a military base, so the concussion and sound were like, someone missed.

You guessed it. The five gallon made it to the fire.

So at the house, the wife inquires as to the blast, noting that the military boys only shot once.

Yep, I say. Must hit what they were aiming for.

Needeless to say, my piles are no longer free dump events.

Sigh.

So are your sneakers old enough to smoke or not?
I think I have a pair of old Converse Chuck Taylors that may be old enough to vote, prolly old enough to drink too. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
