Can anyone of you gentlemen advise me as to what kind of brushcutter motor I have? I purchased it used some time ago and I obviously never needed to service it... Of course with use I currently need to replace a seal underneath the motor. I understand I'll have to take the thing apart to get to that seal but is there a tip or special items I'll need to look out for...?

It ain't a motor. It is a gear box. Probably the best thing to do is start with some PB Blaster on the bolts that hold the thing on and the stump jumper or blade carrier bar underneath. You'll have to flip the thing over and get the blade carrier bar off to put new seals on. Carefully pull the seal, measure it on the OD and ID then go to McMaster-Carr and see what you can find that is a close match. B4 you pull the seal get the best estimate you can on size and type to see if you can find one close enough or you'll be completely out of service until you get one.

Seals are a high maintenance item on bushogs. Those gearboxes will run happily on light grease and it wont come out much thru even a bad seal. If the gears are good just put in some JD Cornhead Grease. Its an NLGI 0 thickness grease. Low to medium speed gearing runs well with it.

It looks like a Hardee mower to me. I have one just like but offset. I would do as stated above fill with 00 grease.

Thank you, Gents on the advice with the seal. I truly appreciate the education! I'm going to try to find the correct seal, I think the gearbox is made from Omni Gear. I'm fairly sure I won't find the seal locally so I'll get on the horn with them and hope they can help. If that fails I'll be looking for some grade 0, 00 or 000 grease to pack it with and hope for the best... You guys are Angels for the mechanically dysfunctional, thanks again!
