Bryant boiler?

I have a Bryant gas fired boiler. The boiler doesn't run more than a day or two without being shut down and a click comes from control box. Then turned back on and boiler starts up. Then we are good to go for a day or two. Boiler guy has been to my place at least 7 times since Jan. Each time service guy says there is nothing wrong. Now after a years worth of shut down and restart a service guy called company and they suggested change the control box. Now at least an idea to try and fix. By the way I would never buy Bryant again. In my case they don't have a clue on whats going on. Unit only 2 yrs old. This problem started when firsr new. However, the installer was a friend and I gave this guy time to research the problem. The shut down happened only every month or two, at first. A couple yrs later the research was done on phone while they stood in front of unit today. What a friend!!

It's a shame one has to worry about using someone he knows for buying products. It seems that the few bad ones ruin it for the good guys. But, how do you deal with a friend who doesn't take pride in his work??

Is this a natural draft boiler or a forced draft? There are several different causes that are not the same for both.

I'd try changing the flame sensor before I went for a master control.

It's a forced air inlet and exhaust. It's one of those energy savers. The control box has start up light that goes from green to solid red then steps through from there. When unit malfunctions green is first then it goes to flashing red. At this time unit must be shut down to step through start up. If not shut down unit doesn't try to start again on it's own.

Sometimes you get what you pay for per installation and start up. It costs money to be licensed, have the proper tools and be insured.

By the way I would never buy Bryant again.

Carrier is almost non existent in the South East for hydronics, but when I handled them up North, Carrier/Bryant didn't actually make the boiler, Dunkirk did, as they did for Lennox.

Carrier is almost non existent in the South East for hydronics, but when I handled them up North, Carrier/Bryant didn't actually make the boiler, Dunkirk did, as they did for Lennox.

The installer is licensed and been around for years. He has installed 4 air conditioners (two heatpumps) for me over years. Service was maybe B to B+. It's just this boiler job was not tended to as and important job. I do think a big part is he's older and tired and his son is not very interested in business.

Yes he was. The installation was time consuming. Had to snake water lines to 3 airconditioners and install heat exchangers in each. Additionally, I have two hot water tanks heated by gas; also powered by the gas boiler. I liked the installation and the installer has always did good work. It's just the service department ain't so good. Of course, that's important on a cold winter night. I have back up electric heat; heat coils in air conditioner.

The boiler is German; I believe.

Finally I called Bryant. Getting through to customer service was a long wait. I explained the problem, included the light codes in my story, asked them to call dealer and give him some tips and they wouldn't tell me anything. They took note I called. About a week later dealer came alive and sent service guy with phone in hand. After a few minutes at unit he called company. Their "tech" and my service guy had a 1/2 hour discussion and phone conversation concluded my unit need a control board. The next day my service guy changed control board. The new control changed Wed and has worked right since then. Knock, knock, knock....knocking on wood..

I have been harping on dealer for months to call company about boiler. Now a short phone call and it's cured (I hope.) . Also a read of documentation included in my furnace papers points to control board. Have to follow light signals and follow the book down. That's the part that scalds me. Common sense is all they needed.

The Installation, Operation, and Maintenance (IOM) manual included with your boiler will tell you which kids of faults cause a "lock-out". When the control board senses one of these coditions it will lock-out the boiler out to let you know that something that requires attention is happening. My guess would be that the new control board wil do the same thing.

The conditions listed in the IOM that can cause a lock should be investigated to determine which one is causing the problem.
