I took ground school and have a little stick time. Had an uncle who was an instructor pilot and co-owned his plane. I could never afford that hobby.

I flew a plane a couple times in the simulator. Flying is the easy part, landing is very tough without ACLS. I crashed into the carrier multiple times. Hard landed at the beach once. We used the simulator for our turn qual training in the Navy. Made me understand what carrier pilots deal with. They are highly skilled.

Passenger keeping his cool, was a major factor in the good outcome. Good job also to the ATC/flight instructor.

I got my SEL in June 1967. Still love general aviation flying.

It is amazing what a person can do when it’s all on the line. He saved the pilot, himself and potentially others on the ground if the plane had crashed…….Good job!!
