I think I have a problem with the FEL on my CK20HST. While using it the bucket will tilt down fast enough that I have to keep tilting it back up. This is especially a problem when I'm carrying a load. What should I be checking to fix this? Leaking cylinders? Anyone taken these things apart to fix them?

Thanks

All too common, the piston seals 'blow out'. There are several posts in this section showing 'how to'. I didn't save the links to them and didn't find them looking quickly. I bought my seals from Martin Fluid Power, I think their link is; Martin Fluid Power - A worldwide distributor of seals, packing, gaskets, and seal repair kits since 1977. It has been mentioned that the Kioti rebuild kit for a cylinder is almost $200/cylinder. I don't know for sure as I never ordered one. Ordering the seals from MFP is about $35/cylinder.
I did find this link in the hydraulic forums that might help you with rebuilding a cylinder. http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/hydraulics/117236-hydraulic-cylinder-rebuild-procedure.html
Here is a link to my post showing the blown out seal in one of my Backhoe cylinders. http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/kioti-owning-operating/166305-thanks-folks-i-found-problem.html

Good luck,

It sounds like the hardest part of rebuilding a cylinder is going to be finding the correct size seals. Anyone know what size is required or a part number for the bucket curl cylinders?

Does your PRV come on in the full curl down mode? If there is a large leak, the relief will not come on as the fluid can not build up relief pressure. If you put a hyd gage on the lift cyl, and use that pressure, as a reference, you can then put the gage on the curl cyl and compare the pressure.

The cause is probably a leaking seal on the piston in one or both cyl allowing the rod end fluid to flow to the base end. I don't believe a valve spool will leak down that fast, however, if the spring center spool is not in the center, it could pass some fluid to the cyl.

You can check which cyl is leaking by removing, say the left cyl hoses and cap them. Then grab a small load and see if the bucket curls down on it's own. If that cyl holds, reconnect the hoses and check the other cyl by removing the cyl hose and capping the hoses.

If one cyl leaks, some would say repair both cyl, but there is the old saying, that if it ain't broke don't fix it. Then there is that " might as well ". It is your tractor, so it is your choice.

Not to difficult to repair if you can get the correct seal kit.

Massey- Do you have the manual for your loader? There should be a parts listing in it. What is the outside diameter of the cylinder and the rod? Maybe it will match one of mine and I can give you an educated guess for the seals sizes.

I just finished rebuilding the cylinder for my log splitter, I had no idea what size rings and washers to get so I took the old ones to a place in York PA that sells that type of thing. They were able to measure the old ones. I took the ram with me and they put them on to check the sizes, so far all is working just fine. Perhaps you could do the same, I am sure that companies like the one I used exist all over the country.

Pulled both cylinders apart to check them over. Only one was bad and I took the seals down to the local hydraulic shop. They didn't have the right size in stock but were able to order them.
