I have a 2710 with a FEL and a lot of brush and small pines to remove. Right now I'm cutting the pines in 10' sections and piling them up at different locations around the property along with assorted limbs from oak trees. I have access to a trac-hoe for digging a pit(this is Florida and burning is risky right now) and I'd like to be able to drop the logs and brush in it at will. Has anyone tried the clamp on forks like those by CTI or even the strap-on(no jokes please) versions? I've seen several versions but they basically start at $500 and go as high as $1000 which is really too much...
Thanks in advance...

I decided on a pair of clamp ons. Read a bunch of posts and really liked what I read about them. Got the info from a kind gentleman half a county away in Texas. Ordered them last week and am somewhat patiently awaiting for their arrival. Intend to use them for moving brush and logs along with building some rock walls. I want to be able to lift and deposit the rocks then position them. I think that they will lift as much as the loader can lift which suits me fine. Probably the only concern I have is that there's no rollback protection so I'll probably construct some kind of vertical structure to attach to the bucket. David

I'll be a few more weeks in looking most likely. I like the idea of the clamp on style for ease of use, but like you, wonder about the roll back protection. If you think about it, please update this post when your's arrive and let me know what you think of them and how useful you found them. Also, what brand they are if they're a major manufacturer.

Thanks!

Thanks Rob. Read the whole thing...I think I'll go with clamp ons, now I just have to find a set that matches my budget and needs.

Thanks again for the info.

I looked seriously at the clamp-ons and ended up going with a full set of forks instead (they replace the bucket on the FEL). Takes maybe 10 minutes to do the change-over and makes a huge difference in seeing where you are going - plus you get some decent roll-back protection. If you are just doing brush the clamp ons or the strap-ons are fine, but if you want to work with pallets I think the full fork is the only way to go.

One way to convince the wife on the need for this - I am building simple frames on a bunch of pallets and putting up our firewood on them. It was an easy sell when I pointed out that she wouldn't have to help bring in the wood from the barn anymore/w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif
