Bucket Size on 46BH?

Well, I am finally about ready to shell out the bucks for a 46BH for my 4110. I need opinions from owners of these as to which size bucket would be best. (9" or 13") I know answers will vary based on type of work/soil conditions, but I don't know yet what all I'll use it for. I know I have stumps to remove, and will have trenches to dig. My main concerns are not to get too much bucket in relation to power, and not to get a bucket in which dirt hangs up easily. Any thoughts?

I got the 13". I'm glad I did. Now that I have it, I can't imagine the 9" being all that useful. It probably would dig better in very very hard dirt, but it would take a while.

When I sugested I might get the 9", my saleman said to take the 13 and if I still wanted the 9 after using the hoe a bit, he'd come by and swap them for me. He knew.

I have a 4115 with 46 backhoe and the 13 inch bucket. We have fair amount of clay in our soil and it has no problems digging through it. I actually chose the size based on what I read on TBN, originally was going with the 9 inch bucket. I have used the backhoe mainly to dig stumps up to this point. There has never been a question of the backhoe not having enough power for the 13 inch bucket size.

I have the 9" on my 47. With my hard rocky soil, it dfoes very well. When I trench the ditch ends up closer to 12" anyway. I have only had it get clogged with dirt once.... YMMV!

Thanks everyone. I think my gut was telling me 13" all along. Thats probably what I will end up with. Just have to finish convincing my wife the backhoe is really important! Jason
