Bucket teeth pro's and con's

Try these guys. http://www.markhamwelding.com/ They are pretty popular among the TBN folks, I have one and it is one of the most usefull cheap addons you can make.

I've got em and like them. They seem to help earth moving in the clay that is around where I am. Good point is that they are fairly inexpensive and can be removed fairly easily, if need be.

The only problem I have witnessed concerning bucket teeth is occasionally you have to take the tractor to the dentist!

Pheesh if you're looking for options the Woods toothbars are quality, thats what I have and it's worth every penny and pound. I'm sure the Markham is every bit as good, I'd go with what's available in your area. I think the price point is similar as I recall, somewhere in the neighborhood of $225+/- as I recall. Mine installs/removes easily in under five minutes, including pulling out the wrenches. Woods makes several different models including ones that will cover replaceable aftermarket cutting edges(the website does not show this but my dealer's Woods catalog had several configurations not on the web). Another plus is the tip on each tooth is replaceable as well if you ever wear them down that far. See link;

I'll tell you my buying experience...yours may vary.

I looked on the net and at all the brands recommended by various TBN folks. I wanted to see one in person...discovered that was hard to do. Nobody close was a dealer. HOWEVER, I happened by the John Deere dealer and asked him about toothbars. He had 3 leaning against a shed. One was 1/2 inch narrower than exactly what my bucket needed. He let me take it and see how it would fit. I decided that with a few washers I could snug it down. It weighs 135 lbs. Most of the others people are using seem to weigh less than 100 lbs probably because that makes them more easily shippable. I've never heard of anyone getting a smile in their loader after installing and using a toothbar.

Net is that I was able to purchase locally more pounds of toothbar (that's either good or bad depending on your point of view) for less than any other manufacturer's purchase price PLUS shipping. I'd recommend the John Deere toothbar... it's truly super heavy with 6 inch teeth, which I like. Some other brands have 4 inch teeth.

What are the pro's and con's of having teeth on your FEL. My property is full of small rocks(golf ball) and dirt with alot of medium size rocks(baseball) mixed in with large rocks(basketball) . Not to mention large boulders (VW). Am thinking the teeth on the bucket would help load faster and better, what do you think.

Dirtcutter, a toothbar will NOT help you with VW-sized boulders...but you knew that, didn't you?
