As a newbie on tractors and hydraulics i am wondering if my FEL was assembled the right way.

I noticed that the FEL lifts a lot what it cannot tilt up anymore. Even with a full bucket of dirt i have the impression that the tilt-up is not powerful.

The tilt cylinders are mounted with the rod on the bottom side and the ''housing'' on the top side what makes i can push more than pull on the bucket.

Is there any benefit to this? I would have thought that it would be more beneficial to have maximum tilt-up power?

It is possible the FEL was assembled wrongly at delivery, so should i reverse them?

Thanks

You can flip them around all you want, but the action is retract of the rod to cause the bucket to curl up. If you don't have enough curl power, check that the system hydraulic pressure is up to spec (often they are lower due to loss of spring tension).

If your bucket has 2 top holes, use the top most one. That will give less curl, but more leverage for greater power.

Even if you reverse them you'll still be shortening the cylinder to roll the bucket back. In order to do what you're thinking of you'd have to mount the cylinders under the bucket to push or remount behind to push a linkage connected back to the bucket, i.e. lengthen the cylinder. BTW this is not the first time someone's asked. Look at the action rather than the position of your lift cylinders. MikeD74T

Thats how they all are. Turning the cyls around would not help because they would still be retracting in curl. To get cyl push to cause curl you would need to mount them on the bottom or else go to a reversing linkage. Complexities. Probably why they dont do it.

Mine is configured the same way.
I think the reason is that the rod being smaller diameter than body allows for a more complete 'dump'. Also any grit/grime would be easier to 'wipe' from the shaft downwards while if at top might tend to get pushed into the seals.

However It does not (on mine) lack power as if I were to wedge my bucket firmly I can actually lift my rear (weighted + loaded tires) clear of the ground so I need to be careful when prying heavy objects.

you would gain some, but is it worth the trouble? check with the spec. on cyclinders and you will see that they push more then pull (because of the piston rod dia.). but if you change them you will have to deal with longer hoses (cautching and tearing) also when over filling. dirt and junk will lay on piston and body of cyclinder. and get ground up and into yourcyclinder seals. the way they are now dirt just falls off. on many loaders they can't curl as much as they can lift. when going into a pile start level then curl then lift and dig(push with tractor). I hope this helps.animal1954

Thanks for the answers! All clear now.

Once i figured it out and it clicked in the head it makes me feel quite stupid asking the question.....

My loader was the same way. I had good lifting power but was always disapointed with the roll back power.
The first thing I tryed was increasing the hydraulic pressure. It helped some but I still wanted more.
Next I drilled new holes 3" higher on the bucket for more leverage. It helped some but the loader could still lift more than it could roll back.
I recently installed larger tilt cylinders (oringinals were 1 3/4", replaced them with 2" cylinders).
That fixed it, Big differance in power, now I can roll back more than I can lift. My loader needed and should have had 2" tilt cylinders on it from the factory in my opinion.

As one of my teachers used to say.
There are not stupid questions. There are only stupid answers.
