Bucket wear.

If anyone buys a weld on cutting edge and cuts the old one out be careful and alternate your weld in two-inch stiches.
Giving it some cooling time in between stich welds and alternating positions.!
It's very easy to have a warped cutting edge

I watched a guy ruin his bucket just running a continuous bead.

Bolt on cutting edges and plug weld is a better way to go if not a real experienced welder

I welded one in my backhoe bucket but had learned what NOT to do from watching my friend ruin his. It was pitiful how bad he warped it.😵‍💫

I managed to produce a little heat on this one. 5 holes, annular cutter, no coolant oil only, heavy enough drill press. $12 for the cutter I could think of as the cost of doing business. $58 material, $12 cutter, way ahead vs dealer cost of $280.

Haugen carbide tipped annular cutters are expensive to say the least and I use them as well as their HSS cutters. I'm kind of limited to what annular cutters I use because my mag drill has the quick release nose on it instead of the more common 2 set screw variety so I'm kind of married to Haugen annular cutters.

I'm going to buy one of the cheaper HF benchtop drill presses and strip everything off of it and modify it so I can use my mag drill as a drill press as well.

Should be an interesting project.

I have been looking at Mag drills. Ill be careful not to get the quick release chuck. It will be HF or similar, it's not something I need name brand for. When you need it you have one.
I have rented them enough to buy one. Nice tool to own. I'm getting too old to lean on 1/2" arm breaking drills.

Feed and speed are too hard to get just right drilling large holes manually

Exactly! Come in all types. Don’t use very much but sure is handy. Just used on the welding bench to gang drill 200+ holes on 12ga panels for shop and basement doors. Milwaukee fabricator features variable speed, fwd/rev, for big cutters or tapping. Great for tapping, a feature I use nearly as much as drilling. 12” head travel so you can use big twist drills. Adjustment between magnet and drill to center over exact position with magnet on. Con, 3/4 drill chuck and haven’t found a quality Weldon adapter for annular cutters. Bimetal and carbide holesaws work well controlling speed and pressure for 9/16”+ holes.
