I'm a first timer here, so please a little paitence. Just recieved yesterday delivery of new snowblower from New Holland distributor. He said it was ready to go, but keep it oiled and greased. Today I opened the parts manual that was supplied, and couldn't find any zerks at all. not even on the pto joints and none were listed on the parts sheet. My only thoughts have been should I take everything apart to make sure it has been greased at dealer and manufactuer ( have bought implements before and had bad experences trusting some dealers to assemble proper.) before delivery to buyer. or just go ahead and use this season. Are all the bearings sealed on this unit? and what about the gear box?
I can grease the auger chain with motor cycle chain grease that you spray on but that seems little to do. any sugestions would be appreciated. and thanks for list
ning..

I don't know that I have ever seen a PTO shaft that didn't have grease fittings, but those used to be common on vehicle driveshafts too and today they hardly exist so I guess it is possible that none are needed. As long as the grearbox oil level is OK and you lubricate the auger chain you should be fine. It wouldn't hurt to give the dealer a call about those grease fitting though.

Hi there,

Not sure what model you have, but a quick search online brought up a page with a bunch of Buhler/Farm King manuals. I looked at the most recent one and it listed:

Lubrication:
- The spout clamps and rings should be periodically lubricated with gun grease.
- PTO shaft universal joints and square shaft slide should be greased daily.
- PTO shear yoke should be greased before using the snowblower for the first time.
- Regularly oiling the chain will significantly increase the life of the chain.
- Gearbox is open type and need not be greased or lubricated.
- Hydraulic spout option – grease the swivel arm.

I'd confirm your model and look at an owners manual in the service section, not the parts manual. Good luck!

I have a buhler snowblower as well. The manual that came with mine didn't mention greasing it either. There are no grease fittings on the machine. There are fittings of the shaft, but the shaft came with a different manual.
Oiling the chain is a good idea, but other than keeping the chain tension correct there is little maintenance to it.

Apparently the no grease fittings on spiders and propeller shafts demon has migrated
to the snowcaster world.

In my case- The 2008 Isuzu/GM Colorado I own with 70 k miles on it now was assembled
in Shreveport with no grease fittings on the spiders(U joints and female propeller shaft
sections.

When I saw this for the first time I was not happy and all sorts of upset but the autombile has
improved short of mandating diesels in everything(heavens saints preserve us no more gas engines!!!!).

I hate the fact that the snowcaster that I have on my JD LA115 has no grease fittings but has the
cheap sealed flange bearings GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

Its now going on its fifth season(no Snow as of 26 December 2015) new snow caster drive belt waiting
to be installed etc. I had the tractors new drive belt installed by the dealer because I did not want to be
crawling under it while it was sitting on jack stands etc. SO with 200 hours on the mule I am waiting on
snow and the plumber to install the new coal stoker boiler.

The allied folks make design and construct good farm equipment and always have.

I just wish that someone would get licensed to build the Berta snow caster as no
one would want to buy anything else because they build them for deep snows and
no plugging with the solid cross auger that serrated teeth on the auger flights AND

The center section is also built with a covered auger section to feed the impeller.

I would not worry too much as the metals, grease seals and greases have improved since the 1995
models.

In my saying that; if Isuzu built snow blowers they would not sell many because they would last for a
long time like thier trucks.

I give my chain a squirt of oil every time I use it.

Hello, it was the same link Mendonsy posted. First one that came up for both of us :) The part I pasted was from the first one in the list (April 2014).

I have a good sized JRW snowblower. There are zerks on just about everything.... BUT most of the bearings are the sealed type. You can try to pump grease into them and can deform the bearing seals if you want to. No use putting zerks on the slower moving stuff if they contain sealed bearing. Take a better look at your PTO shaft, bet you will find them thar zerks.... Put some good syn oil in the gearbox, grease the PTO shaft, and oil the chain once and awhile and you should be good to go. [ OH, forgot the chute... put some white lithium grease on the chute rotating surfaces... ] :)

I have a Provanost 72 inch and was looking for grease fittings to grease and noticed that some of them have small caps on them and if your looking for a zerk you might miss those with the cap!

Congrats on a great snow caster purchase.

The caps are there to keep the dirt out as long as
you clean the end of the grease gun coupler:eek:

Which six footer do you own, is it the P720TRC model???
