I just brought home a Buhler Tiller. Actually my daughter wanted it for her birthday present so she can have a good size garden. And I wanted it also.

Anyway I want to set it in the center as it came off set to one side. As usual I forgot to get the book on it. Can't find a manual online for it but I did see for the next series up you just loosen the two u clamps and it should slide over. I loosened them way up but can not get the drive line to slide at all. Anyone got any experience with this model. I can't find any locking bolts or anything like that.

Also I did start tilling with it but noticed it was slipping alot on the slip clutch. Reading the manual again for a different series I see you are suppose to turn 4 allen screws all the way out. These were not, did I hurt the slip clutch at all? I ran it for about 20 minutes going not very deep but on the surface. Anyway when I finally figured out something was wrong you can smell the burning and also there was some smoke coming out of it.

Any help would be appreciated.

That is what the manual says. Paint may be binding it and a little more persuasion may help.

I got the slip clutch working. I did find the 4 allen screws and turned them all the way out. Tiller worked great for about an hour and then I must have hit something. That drive line is the same for the next series up which I can get the manual off the web for that one so I will download it and use it until I can get the right one. Still can't get the unit to slide over. I think if maybe I loosen the U bolts and then maybe do some tilling with them loose maybe if any paint is holding it, it should break away.

I must have hit a solid rock because now alls I hear is a rattling noise. The PTO shaft turns but the tines don't. I can move the tines by hand so I am hoping there is just a shear pin in there?

Murph,

Hope it is just a shear pin in there somewhere...

Also, sounds like you now know the two limits for setting the slip clutch. The correct setting is likely somewhere in between... /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Pto turns - tines don't - rattling noise /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Sugest you check the chain!

Yep it is the chain. Broke a link right in half. So my question is did I turn the allen screws out to far???? The manual says to take them all the way out, as far as you can go??? So that is what I did. There is some maintenance you can do on the clutch but it does not talk about the allen screws in the maintenance. I probably should go through the maintenance even though it is a new machine. Well my dealer said he set everything up too??? Don't think he did.

Murph,

I would expect so. First you had slippage...then you turned the screws all the way out and you had no slippage, but hit a rock and broke the chain...

To me this would indicate that the correct setting would be somewhere in between...

I guess if I would have gotten a complete manual with it I wouldn't be asking these questions. What manual I could get off the internet only says to turn all the way out.

Page from manual is attached. Doesn't really say much about the adjustment here.
