well Zonta and woodgrub am now at the point of buying a splitter the one both of you have, rang and spoke to the dealer I asked about the pumps they are single stage,Has that not caused any problems, everything I have read so far indicates the need for a 2 stage pump. Am only getting myself back into action after a bit of a layoff Will not be splitting with an axe again thats for sure.Still would like to build my own but at under 800 bucks for a 12 ton splitter it is not viable.

hi,no problem with single stage pump,12 mths comercial use, have fitted 11gpm 2 stage pump now, very fast ,operate 2/3rds revs or less otherwise too fast.unit mounted on the a frame of 2 cubic m trailer, splitter goes wher ever trailer goes.working height breast high, loglifter places logs on beam, split staight into trailer.for a 12 tonner with modified wide wedge and larger pump this outperforms every thing except fast multiwedge splitters.
