Building a gun range and berm/backstop

I hope you have talked to your neighbors and the LEOs. Last thing you want is legal bills. Know the local laws that govern what you plan to do inside and out, maybe ask your lawyer what your exposure is. 100 to a neighbors house sounds iffy. I am glad you are not my neighbor. I am pro gun and shooting but don't like to risk my future. The type shooting you are planning has a high propensity to produce strays. Those shoot houses the military and law enforcement have bullet holes in all directions and those guys & gals are experts. A lot have now gone to paint guns.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Neighbor is good with it. No laws against private ranges on state or twp books. LEOs showing up will politely be told to leave.

The 100 yards is through very heavy foliage AND i was interested in making an L shape to help with noise in that direction.

I've run countless classes with minimal (read: zero) strays because we use a lot of control, brief drills, etc. Military shoot houses that have holes all over: You dont know what drills they were doing, AND these guys are 18 years old going in. Ineffectual comparison.

Glad you aren't my neighbor! I have a LEO living 30 acres away that has a private range. I find his shooting sprees to be a total invasion of my peace and quiet. Wouldn't be so bad if they didn't carry on for hours at a time with cannons. At times it sounds like fully automatic weapons. They haven't been carrying on as often or as long lately so it could be people closer to him has complained.

I had my own range 40 years ago. As soon as someone moved within 20 acres to me I stopped shooting and used the public range 50 miles away. Most of my neighbors either do not shoot or have done the same.

Then reorient the range so that it faces YOUR house - your berm will be enough, right? After all, you and your friends NEVER miss or have ADs....

Why so much hate for a guy who's wanting to build a berm and shoot in his backyard. Around me people routinely shoot into piles of old logs and stuff and no one thinks anything about it

I personally wouldn't have even talked to the neighbor because by talking to them it makes them think they get an opinion on what you do on your property which they don't

^^No doubt..

In my rural area in Georgia, sometimes it sounds like a war is being waged.

To me, it sounds like freedom. Let it ring.

You got that right!! Where I live out in the country (central VA), if you don't hear gunfire sometime/somewhere during the day, its like something's wrong...I shoot on my range almost every day...of course there's nothing behind me but a thousand acres of woods/swamp....and yeah, I like it that way..BobG in VA

Yeah Teachu and tractor seabee are coming across like a bit of an ***.

The way the range is oriented has almost an entire mile downrange through heavy woods before it crosses even a minor road. That would be after a tall berm, shot at from pistol distances.

Because there is a neighbor nearby doesnt mean I'm aiming his way at all.

That being said, I'm glad they're not my neighbors, either.
